Home Stretch

It is hard for me to believe that we will be in the Amazon in less than 3 weeks. A year ago I was returning to this place I love for the first time in 12 years and found my students and I welcomed by old friends who had never forgotten the students of Hudson High School.

This year I will be going home again, accompanied by 29 students all of whom have worked hard to get where we will be going. We will be traveling with books created by Farley's 2nd graders and more Flat Stanley's than I have ever seen in one place.

The staff at Hudson High School has supported our students in many ways, from running in our Run for the Rainforest 5K, to donating old suitcases, to understanding when a member of Peru Crew is late for class because they could not break away from their second grade class.

The generosity of community members has allowed us to travel this year with enough soccer equipment to outfit at least 3 youth teams in a place where cleats are valued in ways we cannot imagine.

This journey that we are taking is a team effort and to all those involved I want to say thank you.

One Month Until Take off!

This time in one month...Peru Crew 15 will be in Iquitos, Peru about to start adventures in the rainforest! Until then, groups are still visitng classrooms every week and collecting medical and school supplies for our travels.

We are so lucky to be recieving so many generous donations from not only the travelers, but also family, friends, and community members. However, with this amazing support comes the need for lots of suitcases and bags! Please spread work and look around for any sort of suitcases that you would be willing to donate for our use in carrying supplies. We will be starting our packing on April 1 and be finished by April 8, so any last donations and/or suitcases will be needed before then.

Parents, keep an eye out for an email including information regarding the brunch on Sunday, April 12 generously hosted by the Magner family.

Finally, please continue to share the blog with family and friends that are interested in the trip; this will be updated daily during the trip and the one line of communication to everyone not in the rainforest with us!

Until then, enjoy these pictures of a few cuties from Ms. Volpicelli's 2nd grade class with their handmade Bromeliad flowers!

Days Until Take off: 37

As April 17, 2015 is quickly approaching, students continue to prepare for the trip by gathering donations and visiting with the second grade classes at Farley Elementary School. The classes have been learning about all the animals and layers in the rain forest, colors in Spanish, and the story of Flat Stanley. Peru Crew travelers will be bringing Flat Stanley with them to experience the adventure as well, so keep an eye out once we get to Peru.

Once we get closer to leaving, this blog will be updated regularly with updates on packing, the books that we make with the second grade classes, and our preparations in general for making the trek down to Panama and then Peru.
